Rudy Giuliani is an American politician, lawyer and businessman. He is a Republican member and former mayor of New York City. Giuliani was born on May 28, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York, as Rudolph William Louis Giuliani. His parents were Helen and Harold Giuliani. He is an only child. Giuliani grew up on Long Island, where he attended St. Anne’s Catholic School. He went on to study at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School and then Manhattan College. He graduated in 1965 with a degree in Political Science. Giuliani originally planned to become a priest, but chose to attend NYU Law School. He completed his Juris Doctor degree in 1968.

Giuliani was a law clerk to Justice Lloyd McMahon from 1968 to 1970. He then served as an associate attorney for the Southern District of New York. In 1973, he was named chief of the Narcotics Division and later as the executive U.S. attorney. In 1975, Giuliani moved to Washington, D.C., where he was appointed Deputy Attorney General for Harold R. Tyler, Jr. During his tenure, he prosecuted drug dealers and white-collar criminals. From 1977 to 1981, Giuliani served as Chief of Staff at the law firm of Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Taylor. In 1981, he was appointed Deputy Attorney General under President Ronald Reagan.
Giuliani ran for mayor of New York City in 1989, but lost to Democrat David Dinkins. In 1993 he challenged Dinkins again and won. On January 1, 1994, he was sworn in as the 107th mayor of New York City. During his tenure, Giuliani was able to reduce serious crime, police shootings and violence in city jails. He was elected for a second term in 1997. He played a key role in the rescue operation following the September 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center. He left office on December 31, 2001, and was replaced by Michael Bloomberg. During the presidential election, Giuliani backed Republican John McCain in 2008, Mitt Romney in 2012 and Donald Trump in 2016.
Giuliani founded the management and security consulting firm “Giuliani Partners” in 2002. The company is headquartered in New York City.
