Roy Moore is an American politician and a member of the Republican Party. He is a former Alabama judge and founder of the Moral Law Foundation. He served as the 28th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama. Roy Stewart Moore was born on February 11, 1947 in Gadsden, Alabama. His parents were Roy Baxter Moore (deceased) and Evelyn Stewart. He has four younger siblings, Joey, Michael, Tony and Nancy. Moore spent several years in Houston, Texas before returning to Alabama. He graduated from Etowa County High School in 1965. He received a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1969, and a juris doctor degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1977. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1974. He retired with the rank of captain.

Moore served as a prosecutor from 1977 to 1982. He specializes in personal injury and insurance cases. From 1984 to 1992, he worked as a lawyer in private practice. He lost to Democrat Jimmy Hedgspeth in the 1986 contest for Etowah County District Attorney. Moore was elected as Judge for the Sixteenth Circuit Court of Alabama in 1992. He received 62% of the votes. He held this position from 1992 to 2000. Moore served as Chief Judge of the Supreme Court of Alabama from 2001 to 2003. After failing to remove the Ten Commandments monument from the rotunda of the Alabama State Justice Building, he was removed from office in November 2003.
Moore founded the non-profit organization “Ethical Law Foundation” in January 2003. He serves as president. The company is a socially conservative Christian rights legal advocacy organization headquartered in Montgomery, Alabama. Moore failed to run for governor of Alabama in 2006 and 2010. He lost two games in the primary. He served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama from January 2013 until his resignation in April 2017. Moore is currently running for a seat in the US Senate vacated by Jeff Sessions. He defeated Luther Strange in the Republican primary in September. He will face Democratic candidate Doug Jones in a special election scheduled for December 12, 2017.
