Rose Leslie is a Scottish actress best known for her roles in Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey. She was born Rose Eleanor Arbuthnot-Leslie on 9 February 1987 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Her parents are Sebastian and Candida, and she has four siblings. Leslie spent her childhood at Lickleyhead Castle in Aberdeenshire. She attended Rennes North School, followed by Millfield School. She continued her education at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), graduating in 2008.

Leslie started performing on stage while attending LAMDA. Her stage credits include Uncle Vanya, The Country Wife, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Asylum. Leslie’s TV debut was in the 2008 series Banged Up Abroad. She then made her debut in the TV movie New Town (2009). Her performance won a Scottish BAFTA. Leslie played the breakthrough role of “Gwen Dawson” in the TV series “Downton Abbey.” The show premiered on ITV in September 2010.
