Corbett was born in Edinburgh in 1930. He is one of three children. He was educated at the Royal High School, but instead of going to university, he decided to pursue a career in acting. In the late ’60s, he met Ronnie Barker and the two immediately bonded. He is a beekeeper, keeping beehives in his second home in Scotland.
He is also an avid golfer and has appeared at celebrity and pro-am events. He is a supporter of local football club Crystal Palace as well as hometown club Heart of Lothian. Ronnie passed away on March 31, 2016 at the age of 85.
