Ronald Joyce, known as the “King of Donuts,” teamed up with former NHL player Tim Horton to create Tim Hortons in 1964 ) fast food and doughnut chain. A former police officer, Joyce met his future partner when he was patrolling the Houghton Donut Shop while stopping by Tim in the early 1960s.

By 1967 he was an official partner of Houghton as he opened two more restaurants of the same name.
