Roger Ailes is an American television producer and former chairman and CEO of Fox News. He resigned in July 2016 amid allegations of sexual harassment. He has also served as a political adviser to several former Republican presidents. Ailes was born on May 15, 1940, to parents Robert and Donna in Warren, Ohio. He has an older brother named Robert Ailes Jr., who attended Warren High School and then Ohio University in Athens. In 1962, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in radio and television.

Ailes began his career in 1962 as a property assistant for KYW-TV. From 1967 to 1968, he was executive producer of the television show “The Mike Douglas Show.” He won 2 Emmy Awards for his work on the show. Ailes served as Richard Nixon’s media advisor during the 1968 presidential campaign. A year later, his consulting firm, Ailes Communication, was established. Ailes served as a political adviser to Ronald Reagan and later to George H.W. Bush. He also served as a consultant during preparations for Donald Trump’s 2016 debate.
Ailes was president of CNBC from 1993 to 1996. During his tenure, he created the channel “America’s Talking” where he hosted the talk show “Straight Forward”. The channel eventually changed its name to MSNBC. Ailes was hired by media mogul Rupert Murdoch as the founding CEO of Fox News in October 1996. He was named chairman of Fox Television Group in 2005. Ailes worked at Fox News for 20 years from 1996 until his resignation in July 2016. Shortly after former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against him. Several other women have made similar claims, most notably journalist Megan Kelly.
