Robin Mead was born on April 1, 1969 in New London, Ohio. She is best known as the lead news anchor for the HLN morning shows Morning Express and Robin Meade.
Mead is a former Miss Ohio who started her broadcasting career on local television. She joined HLN in 2001. She first attended Ashland University, but later transferred to Malone College, where Mead majored in radio/television production, programming and performance and minored in political science. She became Miss Ohio in 1992 and was a semi-finalist in the Miss America pageant before she moved on from college and pageants to move on in the media industry. Started in Mansfield, Ohio, and later moved to Chicago, Columbus, Cleveland and Miami in journalism, CNN noticed her when she was covering a bombing attempt at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She became part of the CNN family and eventually CNN headlines. Her bubbly personality and attractive looks led a poll on Playboy.com to vote her as the sexiest newscaster. Mead won a regional Emmy for reporting on the 1995 collision between a school bus and a train in Fox River Grove, Illinois, that killed seven people and injured more than 24 teenagers. She was also nominated for a regional Emmy for her reporting on how to reduce the chance of injury in survivable plane crashes. In 2002, Mead was named one of the broadcast news industry’s 20 most popular TV news personalities by Lycos. She received Ashland University’s Young Alumni Award for her achievements in broadcasting and was the commencement speaker at the university’s 2005 Commencement. An aspiring singer, Mead released a country music album in 2011 and a second in 2013.
