Roberto Gonzalez Barrera (September 1, 1930 – August 25, 2012) was the chairman of Gruma and Banorte; the first was the world’s largest maker of tortillas, the latter the largest Mexican private bank in the country.
Barrera grew up in poverty and was only 5 years old when she started selling eggs, bread, vegetables and other foods in her hometown. At the age of 15, he got a very useful piece of advice from his grandfather, who told him to stick with the most profitable products.
