Roberto Gonzalez Barrera (September 1, 1930 – August 25, 2012) was the chairman of Gruma and Banorte; the first was the world’s largest maker of tortillas, the latter the largest Mexican private bank in the country.

Barrera grew up in poverty and was only 5 years old when she started selling eggs, bread, vegetables and other foods in her hometown. At the age of 15, he got a very useful piece of advice from his grandfather, who told him to stick with the most profitable products. Three years later, he was exposed to corn for the first time and saw a huge opportunity.
