Robert Osborne is an American film historian, actor and television personality. He is best known as the host of Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and The Movie Channel (TMC). His performance credits include “The Californian” (1958), “Beverly Hillbills” (1962) and “The Man with the Bogart Face” (1980). Robert Jolin Osborne was born on May 3, 1932 in Colfax, Washington. He graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. In 2005, he received an honorary doctorate degree from the Academy of Fine Arts.
Profession
Osborn began his acting career with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz at Desilu Studios in Los Angeles, California. His early television credits include Days of Death Valley (1954) and Californians (1958). He appeared in the 1959 anthology series Westinghouse Desiree Theater. Osborne made his debut in The Man with Bogart’s Face (1980), starring Robert Sacchi and Victor Buono. Other notable appearances include Beverly Hillbilly, Whirlwind Bird and One Step Beyond.
Osborne’s first book, Illustrated for the Oscars, was published by ESE California in 1965. His other publications include Hollywood Legends (1967) and 50 Years of Oscar Gold (1978). Osborn became a columnist for The Hollywood Reporter in the late 1970s. He joined the Movie Channel team in 1984 as a host. Osborn began in 1994 as the lead host for Turner Classics. He hosts their nightly broadcasts and some primetime movies. He also co-hosts The Essentials, TCM’s weekly film show.
Osborn received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006. His honors also include the 1984 American Public Relations Association Journalism Award and the 2007 National Review Board’s William K. Everson Award.

Robert Osborn passed away on March 6, 2017 at the age of 84. His official cause of death has not been disclosed. He reportedly died at his New York home after a long illness. Osborn was never married and had no children.
