She earned degrees in economics and business administration from the University of Michigan, Dearborn, and began working at the Detroit Medical Center. At 19, Fakih entered her first beauty pageant, finishing fourth in Miss Wayne County. A few years later, she represented Michigan in the Miss Lebanon immigrant pageant, where she came third. She won Miss Michigan USA in 2009 and competed in the 2010 Miss USA competition in Las Vegas, where she took the crown in May. She became the first woman in Michigan to win since 1990.
