Rick Ross is an American rapper and founder of the Maybach Music Group. He was born on January 28, 1976 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, his original name was William Leonard Roberts II. Rose grew up in Florida, where he attended Carroll City High School. He later won a football scholarship and studied at Albany State University. Growing up, Ross was influenced by street rappers such as Notorious BIG and Ice Cube. Prior to working full-time in music, he served as a correctional officer for 18 months.

In 2006, Rose signed with Miami Records Slip-n-Slide Records. There, he toured and performed with other rappers such as Trick Daddy and Trina. On August 8, 2006, his first single “Hustlin” signed a record contract with the then president of Def Jam Records, followed by Jay Z. Ross and released his first studio album Port of Miami . This album reached its peak on # day. Ranked number one on the Billboard 200, it was later called one of the best “Coke Rap” albums by Rhapsody. His second hit on Billboard, Trilla, was released in 2008. This album is a tribute to Michael Jackson and includes the hit singles “Speedin”, “The Boss” and “Here I Am”. Rose has since released several other albums, including “Teflon Don (2010)”, “God Forgives, I Don’t (2012)” and “Black Market (2015)”. He also collaborated with artists such as R. Kelly, Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy. As of January 2016, he has signed with Epic Records.

Ross founded the record company Maybach Music Group (MMG) in 2009. The record company has released several successful albums, including “Deeper Than Rap”, “The Gifted” and “The Album About Nothing”. Artists currently signed with MMG include Meek Mill, Omarion, Wale and French Montana.
