Richard Griffiths was born in Thornaby-on-Tees, North Riding, Yorkshire, England in July 1947 and died in March 2013. Griffiths first attended a drama class at Stockton and Billingham College. He then studied at the Manchester Institute of Technology’s School of Drama.
He started working on BBC radio, performing and managing in small theatres. For his role in History Boys on Stage, Griffith has won a Tony Award, a Lawrence Olivier Award, a Drama Desk Award and an Outside Critics Circle Award. His first TV role was in the 1974 TV series Crown Court and Country Hall. In 1982, he had recurring roles in the TV series Apocalypse and Birds of Prey. From 1988 to 1990, Griffith played Trevor Beasley on the “One Life” series. He played Henry Crabbe in the Sky Pie series from 1994 to 1997.
