Regis Philbin is an American TV personality who served as the host of the primetime game show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”. His TV works also include “America’s Got Talent” and “Million Dollar Code”. Philbin was born in the Bronx, New York on August 25, 1931, to Florence and Frank to his parents. He has a younger brother named Frank. Philbin attended Cardinal Hayes High School, followed by the University of Notre Dame. He graduated in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology.

Philbin served as a supply officer in the U.S. Navy before his television debut. In 1955, he began to work as a news and sports reporter for the Los Angeles radio station “KCOP”. Philbin received early exposure as an assistant and announcer on the Joey Bishop Show (1967-69). He became the co-host of Live!. Collaborated with Regis and Kathie Lee in 1981. The show was renamed “Live! Regis and Kelly since 2001.”

These include the Daytime Emmy Awards for “Outstanding Talk Show Host” and “Outstanding Game Show Host”. He holds the Guinness World Record for the longest time spent in front of a TV camera. Philbin’s funeral was held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Notre Dame, Indiana. He was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.
