Best known for his “tough guy” roles, first as Carlin in the 1979 film “Scum” and Will Scarlett in the TV series “Sherwood’s Robin.”
He is also known as a voice actor and has dabbled in filmmaking. He has starred in films such as Cold Mountain, Straight Talk, King Arthur, Proposition, Dead Man, Beowulf, Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Edge of Darkness and Rango. From an early age, he developed a strong interest in acting. Every Wednesday afternoon, he goes to the cinema with his father. After borrowing extra tuition from a friend’s mother, a drama teacher, he took to the stage and soon appeared in the production of “Emile and the Detective.” At the age of 12, Winston joined the prestigious Repton Amateur Boxing Club and won 80 of 88 fights over the next 10 years.
