Butler was selected by the Miami Heat with the 53rd overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft. He started 28 in 72 games in his rookie season. He averaged 7.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists at the end of the season. Before being traded to the New Orleans Hornets, Butler played with the Heat for two more seasons. The deal involves 4 NBA teams and 13 players. He was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers again (2009). In March 2011, he was laid off by the Clippers. Butler has played for the Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors, Indiana Pacers, Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs. He also played for the Tulsa 66ers (Oklahoma City Blues) of the NBA Development League. He was named the NBA Development League’s Influential Player of the Year in 2013. Butler spent his best NBA season with the Los Angeles Clippers (2009-10 season), averaging 11.9 points, 1.4 assists and 0.8 blocks per game. His free throw percentage also reached 84.1%. In the 2010-11 season of the Chicago Bulls, he shot 57.1% from three-pointers. After the 2015-16 season, he retired from the San Antonio Spurs.
