Randy Travis is an American country singer, songwriter, guitarist and actor. He recorded 21 studio albums, sold over 25 million records, and won 6 Grammy Awards. He rose to fame with his 1986 album Storms of Life. Travis was born Randy Bruce Trewick on May 4, 1959, in Marshville, North Carolina. His mother, Bobbie, worked in the textile industry, while his father, Harold, ran horses. He has five siblings, David, Dennis, Ricky, Sue and Ross. Travis attended high school but never completed his diploma. He dropped out of school and got a job as a construction worker.

Travis started singing and playing guitar at an early age. He was inspired by artists such as Hank Williams, Gene Autry and George Jones. Travis started a music career with the help of nightclub manager Elizabeth Hatcher. His self-titled album Randy Traywick was recorded in 1978 by Paula Records. A second album titled “Live at the Nashville Palace” was recorded in 1982.
Travis signed a contract with Warner Bros. Records in 1985. His debut studio album, Storms of Life, was released on the Billboard Top Country chart in June 1986. The album has sold over 3 million copies and is certified 3x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Travis’ second album Always & Forever (1987) was a similar success. He won a Grammy and CMA Male Artist of the Year. Other notable albums include Old 8×10 (1988), No Holdin’ Back (1989) and Heroes & Friends (1990). Travis’ film credits include The Rainmaker (1997) with Matt Damon, and Black Dog (1998) with Patrick Swayze. He also made guest appearances on shows like Touched By and Angel and Matlock.
Travis has released a total of 21 studio albums, 2 live albums and 17 compilation albums. His accolades include 6 Grammys, 6 AMAs and 9 ACMs. He was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2004 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016.
