Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Randy Bachman established himself as a musician even before kindergarten. He won his first singing competition at the age of three, and began to study the violin in depth at the age of five.
He discovered the guitar as a teenager, and playing the instrument ended up occupying his entire life. This caused problems for the school. He repeated grades 10 and 11, but eventually graduated. He went to Red River College, but eventually dropped out to focus on his music career. In 1960, he co-founded the band The Guess Who. The group went on to release three more popular albums, of which Bachmann remains, including their worldwide smash “American Woman.” After leaving The Guess Who in the 1970s, he co-founded the Bachman-Turner Overdrive, or BTO for short. The band released five successful albums between 1973 and 1976. Bachmann left BTO in 1977. He has since worked mainly as a solo artist and has released 13 albums either as a soloist or with members of his various former bands.
