Ralphie May is an American stand-up comedian, writer, actor and producer. He got his big break after finishing second in the first season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. His records include Just Correct (2005), Girth of a Nation (2006) and Too Big to Ignore (2012). Ralph Oliver May was born on February 17, 1972 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He grew up in Clarksville, Arkansas. His mother is a florist. He has three older siblings. May is a graduate of the Performing and Visual Arts High School in Houston, Texas. At the age of 16, he was involved in a car accident and was in a coma for 10 days. He suffered several broken bones as a result of the incident.

May started his stand-up comedy career as a teenager. He grew up listening to the likes of Sam Kinison, Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy. He won a radio contest at age 17, which gave him the opportunity to open for Kinison. He performed at clubs in Houston for several years before moving to Los Angeles. May was a contestant on the first season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing in 2003. He finished second, behind Vietnamese comedian Dat Phan. The exposure saw him stand out on comedy shows like The Wayne Brady Show and The Jay Leno Tonight Show. He appeared on the big black comedy show alongside Monique, Vince Morris, Sexy Mary and Rodman. May works on ESPN’s Mohr Sports, starring Jay Mohr. He has several guest appearances in Red Eye Greg Gutfeld and Comics Unleashed.
May’s debut comedy album Just Correct was released in 2005 and was certified platinum. He followed up on 4 Comedy Central specials, namely “The Perimeter of the Nation” (2006), “Prime Cut” (2007), “Austin-tious” (2008) and “Too Big To Ignore” (2012) year). He produced two comedy specials for Netflix, Unruly (2015) and Imperfectly Yours (2015). He played “Otis” in the comedy film For da Love of Money (2002) starring Pierre Edwards. He voiced the character “Pnut” in the animated series Squidbillies (2013). His credits also include Spy TV, Whoopi, Cubed and Inside Amy Schumer. May won the 2017 Casino Comedian of the Year award at the Global Gaming Expo. His autobiography, This Might Get a Little Heavy, is scheduled for release in spring 2018.
