His parents were Haitian immigrants. Growing up in Montreal, Quebec, Gilles had a passion for cars from the age of 6 and started drawing concept cars at the age of 8.
When Gilles was 14 years old, an aunt (Giselle Muscadi) noticed his talent for sketching cars and wrote to former Chrysler chairman Lee Iacocca, telling him The talent of her nephew. Chrysler’s then-design chief, K. Neil Walling, responded, suggesting Gilles attend one of three design schools. Gilles then attended the School of Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. In 2002, Gilles received an Executive MBA from Michigan State University. Gilles is currently President and CEO of the Chrysler Group LLC SRT brand and Senior Vice President of Design. After joining Chrysler in 1992, he designed the 2005 Chrysler 300. Gilles is also the director of the design team, which created the 2014 SRT Viper. In August 2008, Gilles succeeded the now-retired Trevor Creed as senior vice president of design. In October 2009, Gilles was promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer of the Dodge brand. He was replaced as Dodge’s CEO in June 2011, but remained senior vice president of design and eventually CEO of Chrysler’s Street and Racing Technology division.
