Rachel Roy is an American fashion designer. She has worked with popular clients such as Jennifer Garner, Kate Hudson, Michelle Obama, Lucy Liu and Tyra Banks. Roy was born to parents Donald and Ruth on January 15, 1974 in Monterey, California. Her brother Rajendra is the chief film curator at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Roy attended Seaside High School in California and then Washington Adventist University in Maryland. She studied psychology and English, graduating in 1996.

After graduation, Roy moved to New York to pursue a career in fashion. She started working as a stylist for various magazine publications and music videos. She then worked as an intern at clothing retailer Rocawear. She rose to fame and was soon appointed creative director of the women’s and children’s division.
Roy launched her “Rachel Roy Fashion Collection” in 2005. She also owns a line of affordable sportswear, shoes and accessories that she founded in 2009.
