Powers Boothe is an award-winning American film and television actor. His screen credits include Sin City, Deadwood, Nashville and Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Booth was born to parents Emily and Merrill on June 1, 1948, in Snyder, Texas. He grew up on a cotton farm with two older brothers named Tommy and Riley. Booth was an avid football player in high school. He gave up the sport during his junior year to focus on acting. Booth attended Southwestern Texas State University, followed by Southern Methodist University. He graduated in 1972 with a master’s degree in theatre.

Booth began his acting career at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. He stayed there for two years before moving to New York City. He starred in many plays, including “Henry IV, Part 2”, “Troilus and Cressida” and “Richard III”. His Broadway debut was James McClure’s 1979 one-act play “Lone Star.” Booth’s first film appearance was an unknown role in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969). He played the cult leader “Jim Jones” in the TV movie Guyana Tragedy: The Jim Jones Story (1980). The performance earned him an Emmy for his work in the film. Other early films include Cruise (1980) with Al Pacino, Southern Comfort (1981) with Keith Carradine and Red Dawn (1984) with Patrick Swayze .

Booth played “Philip Marlowe” in the HBO mystery series “Private Investigator” (1983-86). He portrayed “Curly Bill Brosius” with Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer in the western “Tombstone” (1993). Booth co-starred in “Alexander Hague” in Oliver Stone’s biographical film “Nixon” (1995). He had a supporting role in “Senator Rock” in Sin City (2005) and later “Gideon Malik” in The Avengers (2012). His TV credits include Deadwood, 24, Nashville and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series. He also voiced Justice League Infinite, Looney Tunes Show, Ben 10, and the video games “Turok” and “Hitman: Absolution”.
