In 1937, his father Joseph and Jack Green co-founded Progressive Insurance. At the time, it was a small auto insurance company. When Peter joined the company as an underwriting intern, he was still studying at Princeton University. After years of promotion, he became CEO in 1965, with responsibility for 40 employees. Under his leadership, the company continued to grow and by the end of the 1960s he had more than 100 employees and $6 million in annual revenue. The secret to his success was that he brought in many younger, more enthusiastic employees, transforming the corporate culture into one that was more disciplined but more creative. As of 2010, Progressive Insurance had 27.250 employees and a net worth of $15 billion. Peter himself retired from CEO in 2000 but served as chairman of the board until his death in 2013.
