Peter Robert Jackson was born on October 31, 1961 in Wellington, New Zealand. His parents were immigrants from the United Kingdom and raised him in the coastal town of Puklua Bay in New Zealand. He has been a movie lover since he was a child. After receiving a Super 8 camera as a gift, he made his own short film with his friends. He left school at the age of 16, and worked full-time as a photo engraver for the Wellington newspaper, The Evening Post. He stayed in that position for seven years, living with his parents in order to save money on film equipment.

Over the years, Jackson filmed his first feature film “Bad Taste” (1987). It features many of his friends, who perform for free. Thanks to funding from the New Zealand Film Commission, he was able to complete it. His subsequent films include “Meet the Weak” (1989), “Brain Death” (1992), “Life in the Sky” (1994) and “Intimidator” (1996). In fact, he collaborated with Michael Stephens and co-founded the WingNut film production company in February 1987. It has participated in most of his projects, including the aforementioned movies.
In 1997, Jackson obtained the rights to film the epic “Lord of the Rings” (LOTR) film series by JRR Tolkien. After watching Ralph Bakshi’s animated film based on the LOTR trilogy, he became interested in Tolkien’s work for the first time.
