Pete Seeger is an American folk musician, songwriter, activist and television host who has a net worth of $5 million. Seager was born in New York City on May 3, 1919, and has been active in the music and entertainment industry since 1939. He plays banjo, guitar, recorder, tin whistle, mandolin, piano and ukulele.
He is best known as a member of The Weavers and scored several hits in the 1950s. He has worked with The Almanac Singers, Woody Guthrie, Arlo Guthrie, Tao Rodriguez-Seeger and Lead Belly. Seeger is described as a protest singer who has performed for environmental affairs, civil rights international disarmament and counterculture. Some of his most prolific songs include “Turn! Turn! Turn!” and “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” He is known for his involvement with the American civil rights movement and was one of many folk singers involved in writing “We Will Overcome.” West Gary was forced to attend boarding school in Richfield, Connecticut as a young boy, but he contracted scarlet fever and returned home a few years later. At thirteen, he attended Old Farm Prep School in Avon and later Rising Sun. Camp. At seventeen he became a member. Young Communist League, later a member of the Communist Party of America. Seeger was prolific for his support of fellow folk artist Bob Dylan and helped propel Dylan’s career in Columbia Records’ first LP. Seeger is responsible for releasing nearly 50 records and over the course of his career he won the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Spoken Album: Pete Seeger: The Storm King; Stories, Narratives , Poems. He joined Folkways, Columbia, CBS, Vanguard, Sony Kids and SME. Seeger died on January 27, 2014 in New York, NY.
