Paul Scher was born Paul Christian Scher on January 31, 1976 in Huntington, New York. He grew up in Huntington, Bay Shore, North Harbor and Central Islip (all on Long Island) with his mother, Gail Ann, and father, William, and attended Catholic schools. As a high school student, Paul took classes at the Urban Extreme improv troupe in Chicago, and he later became the youngest member of their touring company. After graduating from St. Anthony’s High School, Scheer attended NYU “because of Theo Huxtable”, majoring in education and communications.

In 1998 Paul began performing at the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) in New York City and joined the improv band Respecto Montalban, which also included Rob Huebel, Jack McBrayer, Rob Riggle and Dannah Feinglass.
