Early life and career start
Paul Oakenfold was born on August 30, 1963 in London, England. He grew up in Highbury and Grinches, then moved to Croydon, where he went to the Archbishop Lan Frank School. Later, Okenford studied for four years to become a chef and worked in the Army and Navy clubs.
In the late 1970s, Oakenfold’s music career began when he started helping Trevor Fung DJ soul music in a bar. In 1981, he and his friend Ian Paul moved to New York City, where he worked as a courier. At the same time, he and Paul will use false identities to sneak into the ballroom. After returning to London, Oakenfold became an A&R member of Champion Records and signed with artists such as Salt-N-Pepa and DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince. He also appeared in the BBC children’s TV show “Blue Peter” and became the initiator and agent of Run-DMC and Beastie Boys.
Rise to fame
Oakenfold broke into the mainstream in 1987 when he helped organize a sour house party at the Paradise Club in Charing Cross. These popular events continued for the rest of the decade, with more than 1,500 people attending on Monday night. Oakenfold then realized that he wanted to create a new place where artists could build their careers. Subsequently, he founded Perfecto Records in 1989. Oakenfold gained fame in the following years. In 1990, he worked with Andrew Weatherall, Steve Osborne and Terry Farley to produce two remixes and cover songs for the rock band Happy Mondays. The band was very impressed with this work and invited Oakenfold and Osborne to produce their third studio album “Pill’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches”. Further success
Oakenfold continued to produce a large number of popular mixes in the 90s and 00s. One of his successes is the remix of U2’s “Even Better Than the Real Thing”, which has a higher charts than the original song. He also collaborated with Steve Osborne and Ben Hiller on the Rolling Stones song “You Got Me Rocking” and Duran Duran’s song “Out of My Mind” was mixed. In 1994, Oakenfold produced a one-on-two-hour DJ episode for BBC Radio 1, which later became an album called “The Goa Mix”. Another popular DJ mix album “Perfecto Fluoro” came out in 1996.
