Paul Daniels is an English magician and entertainer, best known for The Paul Daniels Magic Show. He was born on 6 April 1938 in South Bank, Middlesbrough, to Newton Edward Daniels. He attended Sir William Turner Grammar School and was later drafted into the army during his National Service. Due to early hair loss, the 5-foot-5 Daniels wore a wig for most of his career. Prior to his career, he worked as a junior clerk, auditor and in the family’s grocery store business.

Daniels developed an early interest in magic after reading the book How to Entertain at a Party. He started performing at local parties and various youth clubs. He’s known for using the catchphrase, “You’re going to love this, not a lot, but you’re going to love it”.
In 1970, Daniels made his television appearance for the first time, participating in the talent show Opportunity Knocks. He finished second and got a spot on the variety show The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club. The Paul Daniels Magic Show premiered on BBC1 in 1979. The series ended its 15-year run in 1994. Daniels also performed his own stage play “It’s Magic (1980-1982)” live at the Prince of Wales Theatre. In 1982, he was awarded the “Magician of the Year” award by the Academy of Magical Arts.

Paul Daniels passed away on March 17, 2016 at the age of 77. According to reports, the cause of his death was a brain tumor. Daniels married his first wife “Jacqueline Skipworth” in 1960 and they have three children, Gary, Paul and Martin. He then married “Debbie McGee” from 1988 until his death in 2016. He is survived by his wife and three children.
