Kariya plays for the Maine Black Bears of the Eastern Hockey Association. He was selected 4th overall by Anaheim’s mighty Ducks in the 1993 NHL draft.
He played 15 seasons on the left wing and played for the Colorado Avalanche, Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues. In his first season, he was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team. He was named to the NHL’s No. 1 All-Star team three times and won the first-place Hart Memorial Trophy in 1997. Kariya won the Lady Byng Trophy for sportsmanship in 1996 and 1997. Kariya captained for seven seasons and led the Mighty Ducks to the 2003 Stanley Cup Final. He was a seven-time NHL All-Star and was the Skills Hockey Control Champion from 1999 to 2002. Kariya, who represented Canada in international competitions, won gold medals at the 2002 Olympics, the 1994 World Championships and the 1993 World Youth Championships. He also holds the Nashville Predators record for most assists and points in a single season. Paul was forced to retire after suffering multiple concussions.
