Patton Peter Oswalt is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and author. He is best known for the sitcom King of Queens and the movie Ratatouille. He was born to parents Carla and Larry on January 27, 1969, in Portsmouth, Virginia. He has a younger brother, Matthew, who is a comedy writer. Oswalt attended Broad Run High School, followed by the College of William and Mary. He graduated in 1991 with a BA in English.

Oswalt began working as a stand-up comedian in the late 1980s. His TV debut was in the 1994 episode of Seinfeld. Beginning in 1995, he spent two seasons as a comedy writer for MADtv. Other early TV shows include Mr. Show with Bob and David, and The Weird Al Show. In 1998, Oswalt had the breakout role of “Spence Olchin” on the sitcom “Queen of the Queen.” The show ran for nine seasons on CBS from 1998 to 2007. Other notable TV shows include Reno 911!, United States of Tara, The Heart, She Holler and The Goldbergs. He also voiced the animated series Kim Possible (2003-07), WordGirl (2007-15) and Neighbors from Hell (2010).
Oswalt’s feature film debut was the 1996 comedy “Periscope.” He went on to have small roles in films such as Magnolia (1999), Zoolander (2001), Blade: Trinity (2004) and Failure to Launch (2006). His first leading role was the voice of “Remy” in the 2007 animated film Ratatouille. Oswalt starred alongside Charlize Theron in the 2011 comedy Young Adult. His “Matt Freehoff” role earned him multiple Best Supporting Actor nominations. Other notable films include The Big Fan (2009) and Nature Calls (2012).
To date, Oswalt has released six comedy albums. His first album, Feelin’ Kinda Patton, was released in June 2004. His third album, My Weakness Is Strong, was released in 2009, and his latest album, Tragedy and Comedy Equals Time, was released in 2014. He has also published several books including Zombie Spaceship Wasteland (2011) and Screen Demons: Learning Life from Movie Addiction (2015).
