In 1970, Patrick teamed up with several musicians from around San Jose, who formed a band called “Pud”. The band played around the Bay Area and soon spread throughout Northern California. They are especially popular among the Hells Angels and perform regularly at their favorite venues up and down California. They released their first studio album in 1971, titled “The Doobie Brothers”. Around the same time, they also embarked on their first national tour. The band reached their peak in the late 70s and early 80s. Their 1978 album “Minute by Minute” reached number one on the Billboard charts. Simmons wrote a number of singles for the band, including “Blackwater,” “Midnight Ladies in South City,” and “Echo of Love.” The Doobies first disbanded in 1982 after Simmons announced his departure from the band. In 1983, Patrick released his first solo album, “Arcade,” with the single “So Wrong” at number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100. He released his second solo album in 1998.
