Oscar Robertson Net Worth: Oscar Robertson is an American retired professional basketball player with a net worth of $200,000. Oscar Robertson was born in Charlotte, Tennessee and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. His family couldn’t afford basketballs, so he practiced with tennis balls, rags tied with rubber bands and a peach basket. He was a great player in high school and helped his school, the Crispus Attucks, win the 1955 state championship. It was the first state championship won by an all-black school in the United States. In 1956, he went on to be named “Mr. Basketball” in Indiana. He then played college basketball at the University of Cincinnati, where he set multiple records, but also had to deal with fierce racism along the way with the team. After graduation, he played for the Cincinnati Royals from 1960 to 1970 and the Milwaukee Bucks from 1970 to 1974. During his 14-year career, he won every major basketball award possible, including Rookie of the Year, NBA Most Valuable Player and the 1971 NBA Championship. He was a member of the 1960 Olympic basketball team that won gold medals. He won the first two NCAA Division I Player of the Year awards. In 1998, the honor was renamed the Oscar Robertson Trophy.
Financial problems: In 1981, he founded a chemical company called Orchem. Unfortunately, the company went bankrupt in 2012. In July 2018, it was revealed that Oscar Robertson owed $200,000 in taxes and $2.4 million in bank loans. As a result, he launched an auction to raise money by selling some of his most prized basketball memorabilia. Auction items include his 1971 NBA championship ring, Basketball Hall of Fame ring and induction trophy, as well as all 12 of his NBA All-Star rings.
