The show is based on the 2010 memoir, Orange is the New Black: My Year in Orange Is the New Black, written by Piper Kerman. The series premiered on July 11, 2013. Orange Is the New Black quickly became the most-watched series on Netflix. Four seasons have been released so far, with another three seasons approved for production. Orange Is the New Black has been nominated for multiple awards, including 12 Primetime Emmys and 6 Golden Globes.
