Muhammad was born in Ankara on March 24, 1962, the second son of Rahmi Koc and the grandson of Vehbi Koc, the founder of the organization. After graduating from Roberts College in Istanbul and Millfield School in Somerset, UK, he continued his studies at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., before earning a BA and MA at Columbia University.
