Omar Mir Sediq Martin is an American security guard and mass murderer. In 2016, he was shot at the Pulse gay bar in Orlando, Florida, killing 49 and injuring 53. Martin was born on November 16, 1986, in New Hyde Park, New York, to Afghan parents. His father, Mir Sedik, was a jihadist supporter who had tried to run for the presidency of Afghanistan. Mateen attended Martin County High School, followed by St. Lucie West Centennial High School. He continued his education at Indian River State College and earned a degree in criminal justice.
Martin worked as a security guard for several years. He holds an active duty firearms license and an armed security license. From 2006 to 2007, he worked for the Florida Department of Corrections. Later, Martin was employed by G4S Secure Solutions in Jupiter, Florida. He held that position from 2007 until his death.

Martin was again under investigation by the FBI in 2013 and 2014. He reportedly purchased two weapons two weeks before the shooting, a SIG Sauer MCX semi-automatic rifle and a 9mm Glock 17 pistol. The fatal attack took place on June 12, 2016, at the Pulse gay bar in Orlando, Florida. Martin reportedly called and swore allegiance to ISIL before the shooting. A total of 49 people were killed and 53 injured. He also took several hostages after police arrived at the scene.

The couple separated after four months of marriage. According to Yusufiy, Mateen suffered from bipolar disorder, was mentally unstable, and would physically abuse her. Martin married his second wife “Noor Salman” in 2013 and they have a son together.
