Nicki Minaj is a Trinidad-American rapper and songwriter. She was born on December 8, 1982 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, her former name is Onika Tanya Maraj. Her parents are Carol and Robert. She has four siblings, Jelani, Ming, Micaiah and Brandon. Minaj grew up in Queens, New York. She attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School, specializing in visual and performing arts.

After graduating from high school, Mina began to try acting. She appeared in a 2001 off-Broadway drama, just in case. Before being discovered by Fendi of Dirty Money Entertainment in 2007, she did a series of other jobs. Minaj was later introduced to rapper Lil Wayne, who helped her start her career. She has released three mixtapes, Playtime Is Over (2007), Sucka Free (2008) and Beam Me Up Scotty (2009). These tapes feature artists such as Busta Rhymes, Gucci Mane, Jae Millz and Lil’Kim.

Her film works include “Ice Age: Continental Drift” (2012) with Ray Romano, another woman with Cameron Diaz (2014), and a barber shop with IceCube: Next clip (2016).
