Nancy is probably best known as the widow of Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States. Nancy Reagan served as the First Lady of the United States from 1981 to 1989, throughout the two terms of President Reagan.
early life
Nancy was born on July 6, 1921 in Anne Francis Robbins in Manhattan, New York, and was the only child of Kenneth Robbins (salesman) and Edith Luckett Robbins (actor). Earlier, Annie was given the nickname “Nancy”. Nancy’s father left the family very early in her infancy, when Nancy was sent to Bethesda, Maryland to live with her aunt and uncle (Virginia and C. Audley Galbraith) . During Edith’s numerous theater performances, Nancy and her aunt would visit her mother, and she would eventually marry Loyal Davis, a famous neurosurgeon in Chicago.
Nancy was exposed to new wealth and privileges that enabled her to enter the girls’ Latin school. Later, Nancy studied drama at Smith College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1943.
Acting career
After graduating from college, Nancy worked as a salesperson at the Marshall Fields department store in Chicago. Later, she served as a nurse assistant.
With the help of her mother and her background, Nancy naturally entered the acting career and was named after Nancy Davis. She got her first role (non-speaking part) in “Ramshackle Inn” produced by the tour company. The play was staged on Broadway in New York City and won a minor role in the musical “Song of the Pipa” starring Ubrenna and Mary Martin in 1946.
In 1949, Nancy was awarded a contract with MGM Studio in 1949 for a period of seven years. Success didn’t come quickly-MGM found it difficult to play Nancy in contemporary films produced at the time. On March 6, 2016, Nancy Reagan died of congestive heart failure at the age of 94. She was buried in the Reagan Presidential Library-right next to her husband. Many dignitaries who attended her funeral included Michelle Obama and Rosalyn Carter. Former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura Bush also attended the celebration of Nancy’s life.
