Mystikal is a Grammy nominated American rapper. He is known for albums such as Unpredictable (1997), Ghetto Fabulous (1998) and Let’s Get Ready (2000). His film credits include 13 Dead Men (2003), Mac & Devin Go to High School (2012) and My Side Piece (2016). Mystikal was born Michael Lawrence Taylor on September 22, 1970 in New Orleans, Louisiana. His father died when he was about 7 years old. He has an older sister named Michelle. Mystikal attended Cohen High School around the same time as actor Tyler Perry. After graduation, he served as a combat engineer in the U.S. Army during the Gulf War.

Before working in music, Mystikal worked as an undercover security guard in a New Orleans shopping mall. His early musical influences include rapper LL Cool J. He finally got a break after opening a concert for Run-DMC and Doug E. Fresh. His stage performance on “Not That Nigga” earned him a contract with the indie label Big Boy Records. Mystikal’s self-titled debut album was released by Big Boy in June 1994. The album was reissued as “Mind of Mystikal” by Jive Records and BMG in October 1995. In 1996 he signed with Master P’s No Limit Records, and his second album Unpredictable was released in 1997. The album reached number three on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA. It was led by the single “Ain’t No Limit” starring Master P and Silkk the Shocker. No Limit’s second and final album, Ghetto Fabulous, was released in December 1998. 386,000 copies were sold in the first week. The album features guest appearances by Snoop Dogg, Charlie Wilson, Busta Rhymes, C-Murder, Naughty By Nature and a few others.

Mystikal’s best-selling album Let’s Get Ready was released in September 2000. It is certified 2x Platinum and has sold over 2 million copies in the US. The album reached #1 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It spawned the singles “Shake Ya Ass” featuring Pharrell Williams and “Danger (Been So Long)” featuring Nivea. The fifth album, Tarantula, was released in December 2001. It features The Neptunes, Scott Storch, Juvenile and KLC, among others. The album was nominated for two Grammy Awards, including one for Best Rap Album.

In addition to music, Mystikal has appeared in a handful of movies and TV shows. He starred in the films “I Got It” (1998) and “Making Baby” (2002). He played “Caj” in the action film 13 Dead Men (2003). The film is directed by Art Camacho and stars Lorenzo Lamas. Mystikal was chosen as “Tip Toe” in 3 episodes of the We Are Beginning (2012) series. He appeared in the comedy film “Mike and Devin Go to High School” (2012) alongside Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa and Mike Epps. Other notable films include My Side Piece (2016), Blues for Life (2016) and Mississippi Turntup (2017). He also appeared as a musical guest on popular shows like The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Mystikal is approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and is of African American ancestry. His net worth is estimated at $3 million. He has two children, Million and My’chelle Tyler. Mystikal pleaded guilty to sexual assault and extortion in June 2003. From January 2004 to January 2010, he was sentenced to six years in state prison. He was registered as a sex offender after his release. In 2012, he served another three months for violating his probation. On August 21, 2017, Misticar handed himself in after an arrest warrant was issued. He was charged with first-degree rape.
