Sendak was born to Jewish Polish parents and lost many of his family members during the Holocaust. He has authored many titles such as Kenny’s Window, Night Kitchen, Seven Little Monsters, and Outside. He has also drawn many children’s books including Very Special House, Hurry Home, Candy, School Wheels, Mrs. Wiggle’s Farm, The Bear Series, Singing Mountain, McCall’s, Animal Family, The Golden Key , Juniper, The Bearded King, The Nutcracker, The Circus Girl, and the Sly Little Vixen. Sendak worked on the 1973 film Where the Wild Things Are and created the artwork for the 1985 film Return to Oz. He made The Bear Movie in 2001 and a remake of The Wilderness in 2009. Maurice Sendak passed away on May 8, 2012 at the age of 83.
