Morris Knight Net Worth: Maurice Chevalier is a French actress and singer who has a net worth of $10 million. Born in Paris, France in 1888, Maurice Chevalier started his entertainment business after jumping from job to job in the early 1900s. He first started singing at a local cafe and appeared in a community musical in “l’Alcazar”.
In less than a decade, he teamed up with French darling Frehel to form one of the biggest duos in the country. However, the partnership lasted only two years as Frehel succumbed to problems caused by drug addiction. Chevalier’s career was interrupted by his service during World War I; he was wounded by shrapnel on the battlefield and held by the Germans as a prisoner of war. Thanks to the efforts of King Alfonso XIII of Spain, the knight was released. A year later, he returned to acting and started entertaining the troops. Chevalier soon moved to London and then back to Paris to work in film and music. He made his Hollywood debut in 1928, agreeing to sign with Paramount Pictures and star in “The Innocents of Paris.” Two years later, he was nominated for his first Oscar, and again for Best Actor for “Love Parade” and “The Big Pond.” In the early ’30s, he became one of America’s most recognizable stars, starring in several hit films, including “Paris Playboy,” “Love Me Tonight,” and “The Beloved Wanderer.” He also starred in 1958’s “Gigi.” Chevalier maintained his career during World War II and was invited by the Nazis to perform, but he declined. Instead, Chevalier performed in his former WWII POW camp. He was responsible for dozens of hits such as “Ma Pomme” in 1946, “Living in the Sun, Love in the Moonlight” in 1930, “Thank You Little Girl for Heaven” in 1957 and “Enjoy” in 1967 Bar!”.
In 1970, Chevalier sang the title song for Disney’s “The Aristocats.” Two years later, he died in Paris on New Year’s Day, 1972. Chevalier is 83 years old.
