Morley Safer is a Canadian-born news anchor, radio journalist and television personality. He has won multiple Emmys and is best known for his tenure on CBS News Magazine’s 60 Minutes. Safer was born to parents Anna and Max on November 8, 1931, in Toronto, Ontario. He is a student of Hubbard College and Brewer College. He went on to study at the University of Western Ontario.

Safer started his career in 1951 with the local newspaper Woodstock Sentinel-Review. Before joining the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), he worked briefly for the London Free Press and the Toronto Telegraph. He has worked as a correspondent for the CBC, specializing in television war coverage.
Safer continued to work as a reporter for CBS in 1964. In 1965 he covered the situation of the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam, and in 1967 he had a feature report titled “Molly Cypher’s Red China Diary.” He also covered the Nigerian Civil War. Safer was CBS London bureau chief from 1967 to 1970. He joined 60 Minutes in 1970, succeeding journalist Harry Reasoner. He held this position for 46 years. Safer has won 12 Emmy Awards, 3 Overseas Press Club Awards and 3 Peabody Awards. In 2003, he received the Emmy Award for Lifetime Achievement from NATAS. He is also the recipient of the Robert Kennedy National Television Journalism Award.
