Monty Hall is a Canadian-American game show host, producer and television personality. He is known for co-creating and hosting the game show Let’s Make a Deal. His TV credits include Video Village, Beat the Clock and Cowboy Theatre. Hall was born on August 25, 1921 in Monthal Palin, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. His parents are Ross and Maurice Halperin. He has a younger brother named Robert. Hall attended St. John’s High School in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and then the University of Manitoba. Graduated in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science degree. During World War II, he served in the Canadian Army and served as a moderator for the military.

Hall starred in several musicals/plays while studying at the University of Manitoba. He has worked briefly on CKRC (Winnipeg) and CHUM (Toronto) radio stations. He hosts the game show “Bingo at Home” on WABD-TV. In 1955, Hall moved to New York City and became the anchor of the NBC radio show “Monitor.” He hosted the children’s shows “Cowboy Theater” (WRCA-TV) and “Fun In the Morning” (WNEW-TV). He has guest-hosted popular shows such as Strike It Rich (CBS) and 21 (NBC). Hall hosts “Video Village Junior” (CBS-TV) with Eileen Barton and Kenny Williams. He worked as a radio analyst for the New York Rangers during the 1959/60 NHL season.
Hall and producer Stefan Hatos co-produced the video game show Let’s Make a Deal. The show premiered on NBC in December 1963. It has since aired on ABC, CBS and through syndication. The game show spawned the “Monty Hall Problem”, a probability puzzle. Hall hosted “Beat the Clock” on CBS (1979-80) and later “Split Second” on ABC (1986-87). His TV credits include The Nanny, The Love Boat, Providence, and The 70s Show. Hall retired from presenter in 1991. He is also known for his charitable and humanitarian work. He has led several fundraising campaigns for various charities. Hall was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1973, the Canadian Walk of Fame in 2002, and the American Television Game Show Hall of Fame in 2007. In December 1988, he was awarded the Order of Canada (OC).
