Mohammed bin Salman is the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and has a net worth of US$5 billion. Mohamed bin Salman was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in August 1985. His father, King Salman, became King of Saudi Arabia and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia after King Abdullah’s death in January 2015. At the same time, Mohammed bin Salman became the crown prince of Saudi Arabia. He became the first deputy prime minister of Saudi Arabia in June 2017.
From April 2015 to June 2017, he served as Deputy Crown Prince and Second Deputy Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, and served as Minister of Defense in January 2015. Mohamed bin Salman also served as chairman of the Economic and Development Committee. He led many reforms, including lifting the ban on female drivers and regulations restricting the power of religious police. He fights for women’s rights, including Saudi Arabia’s first women’s stadium, Saudi Arabia’s first public concert by a female singer, and increasing the number of women in the workforce.
In 2015, Mohammed bin Salman spent US$299 million to acquire a mansion called Chateau Louis XIV in France. In 2017, he bought a superyacht called “Serene” for US$500 million. When asked about these purchases in an interview with CBS “60 Minutes”, Mohammed replied:
“As for my private expenses, I am a rich man, not a poor man. I am a member of a ruling family that had existed for hundreds of years before the establishment of Saudi Arabia.“

In November 2017, Mohammed rounded up hundreds of extremely wealthy and powerful people at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Riyadh. Many of the detainees are princes and/or immediate family members of Muhammad. One of the detainees is bin Salman’s cousin, Prince Alwaleed, a well-known billionaire investor. According to reports, these detainees were tortured during the three-month imprisonment and were not released until reportedly surrendering most of their personal wealth. They gave up land, cash and business shares. According to reports, Prince Alwaleed handed over $6 billion worth of assets to his cousin. The Saudi authorities later claimed that they had recovered US$107 billion in assets.
In October 2018, journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey by a 15-person commando team flying over from a private jet in Riyadh. It is generally believed that both incidents were personally ordered by Mohammed bin Salman.
