Mirai Nagasu is an American figure skater and 2 times Olympian. She won the bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Over the years, she has received honors including three four-continent medal winners, two world youth medal winners, and seven American national medal winners. Mirai Aileen Nagasu was born on April 16, 1993 in Montebello, California. Her parents Kiyoto and Ikuko own a sushi restaurant. They are all immigrants from Japan. Nagasu spent her childhood in Arcadia, California. She attended Arcadia High School and completed her diploma online through Capistrano Connections Academy. She majored in International Business at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. Nagasu is fluent in English and Japanese. Before her 22nd birthday, she had dual citizenship of the United States and Japan.

Nagasu switched from golf to skating at the age of 5. She thinks Yuna Kim, Michelle Kwan and Sanada have the greatest influence on her. Over the years, her coaches include Sandy Gollihugh, Charlene Wong, Frank Carroll and Tom Zakrajsek. Nagasu quickly passed the Junior, Intermediate and Novice levels. She entered the junior level in the 2006-07 season and won the Southwest Pacific and Pacific Coast Division Championships. She won the gold medal in the final of the 2007 Junior Grand Prix. Nagasu won the silver medal in the 2007 World Youth Championships and the bronze medal in 2008. She became the youngest woman (14 years old, 250 days) to win the American Senior Women’s Championship since Tara Lipinski in 1997. Nagasu won the silver medal at the 2008 U.S. Championship and 2010. She won a bronze medal at the 2011 Four Continents Championship.
Longbeard made his debut at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. She was 16 years old at the time. She won 6th in the short program, 5th in the free skating, and 4th overall. Despite finishing third in the U.S. Championship, Cheung Chau was not selected for the 2014 Sochi Olympics. She participated in the Olympic Games for the second time in 2018 in Pyeongchang, South Korea. As a member of the American team, she won the bronze medal. Nagasu made history and became the first American female figure skater to perform three-axes at the Olympics. She is also the third woman from any country to accomplish the above feat.
In 2018, Cheung Chau was nominated as a contestant in the 26th season of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars”. Her professional dance partner is Alan Bersten. The full-athlete cast includes Olympians Adam Ripon and Tonya Harding.
