He was born on October 2, 1950 in Guildford, England. In addition to working for Genesis for many years, Rutherford also released two solo albums in the early 1980s. In 1985, he formed the very successful derivative combination Mike + The Mechanics, which later became the top of the rankings and an important live draw.
