Mike Pompeo is an American politician, Republican, and 70th US Secretary of State. He was appointed director of the CIA by President Donald Trump. He is also a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Kansas’ 4th District. Pompeo was born Michael Richard Pompeo on December 30, 1963 in Orange, California. His parents are Dorothy and Wayne. Pompeo attended Los Amigos High School and then West Point. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Pompeo served as a cavalry officer in the Army from 1986 to 1991. He completed his Juris Doctorate at Harvard Law School in 1994.

Pompeo is the editor of the Harvard Law Review. He graduated in 1994 as a tax attorney with the Washington DC litigation firm “Williams & Connolly”. Pompeo moved to south-central Kansas in 1997 and founded Thayer Aerospace. The company supplies components for military and commercial aircraft. Pompeo was Thayer’s CEO from 1997 to 2006. He became President of Sentry International in 2006. Sentry International manufactures, distributes and services oilfield equipment.
In 2010, Pompeo challenged and defeated Democratic nominee Raj Goyle for the 4th District Congressional seat. He was sworn in on January 3, 2011. Pompeo was re-elected in 2012, 2014 and 2016. He was named director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) under the Trump administration. Pompeo succeeds Rex Tillerson as the new U.S. Secretary of State. He is the 70th to hold the above position.
