Mike Pence is an American politician, the 50th Governor of Indiana and a member of the Republican Party. He was the 48th Vice President of the United States. Burns was born Michael Richard Burns on June 7, 1959, in Columbus, Indiana. His parents are Nancy Jane and Edward J. Pence Jr., and he has five siblings. Pence attended Columbus North High School, followed by Hanover College. He graduated in 1981 with a BA in History. Pence completed his Juris Doctorate at Indiana University McKinney School of Law in 1986.
Profession
Before entering politics, Pence worked as a lawyer in private practice. From 1991 to 1994, he served as President of the Indiana Policy Review Foundation. Later, he hosted the radio talk show The Mike Pence Show on WRCR-FM in Rushville, Indiana. Pence won a congressional seat in 2000 after unsuccessful attempts in 1988 and 1990. He served in the United States House of Representatives from January 2001 to January 2013. He also chaired the House Republican Conference from 2009 to 2011.
Pence was elected as the 50th Governor of Indiana in 2013. His focus on tax reduction led to a $1.1 billion tax cut for the state of Indiana in 2013. He was also successful in establishing a pre-K funding program to improve infrastructure. Pence in Nominated by Republican candidate Donald Trump as his vice presidential nominee in July 2016. He was considered a good choice due to his popularity among conservatives and his connections to congressional leaders. Pence was sworn in as the 48th Vice President of the United States on January 20, 2017.
