Mika Emilie Leonia Brzezinski Scarborough was born on May 2, 1967 in New York City. Mika’s mother is a Swiss-born Czech sculptor, while her father is Polish-born foreign policy expert Zbigniew Brzezinski. Mika’s father served as the United States’ national security adviser. Her mother also has political connections, as she is the grandniece of the former president of Czechoslovakia.
When Mika was born, her father was teaching at Columbia University. The family then moved to McLean, Virginia, near Washington, D.C. Her father was then named National Security Advisor by Jimmy Carter. Mika grew up with two brothers, one of whom went on to become a U.S. diplomat and U.S. ambassador to Sweden. Her other brother became a military expert.
After high school, Mika attended Georgetown University. Two years later, she transferred to Williams College, where she received a BA in English Literature. Brzezinski left the university in 1989.

A year after leaving college, Mika landed a job as an assistant on ABC’s “World News This Morning.” Over the next few years, she worked for Fox affiliates in Connecticut, eventually becoming a journalist. By 1992, she had joined the Hartford-based CBS affiliate, eventually becoming a weekday morning anchor in 1995. In 1997, she officially joined CBS News as a “Latest News” reporter.
After a stint at MSNBC, Mika returned to CBS in September 2001 — just before the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This made her a major source of CBS coverage after the attack, and the opportunity provided her with considerable exposure. Brzezinski broadcast live during the attack, including the moment the South Tower collapsed. Following this revelation, Mika worked as a reporter and anchor for CBS, writing for CBS Sunday Morning and 60 Minutes. Ultimately, she was fired from CBS.
In 2007, Brzezinski returned to MSNBC and played various roles. Over the next few years, Mika proved to be a moderately popular but somewhat controversial figure. She is known to refuse to report on what she considers “entertainment news,” such as Paris Hilton’s legal issues. At one point, she even tried to burn a script detailing Hilton’s release from prison.
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Brzezinski was criticized for his repeated phone interviews with Donald Trump. She has also been criticized for highlighting the unfair treatment of Bernie Sanders by the Democratic National Committee. Mika then refused to have Kellyanne Conway appear on her show after claiming that Conway was spreading misinformation.
After an initial spat with Trump in 2016, Mika has been embroiled in a number of other disputes with the former president. Both Brzezinski and Trump tweeted insults at each other. Trump called her “low IQ” while Mika called Donald’s presidency “false and a failure.”

Mika reportedly sold the home because she wanted something bigger in the same area.
