Michael is the founder and chairman of Portland Holdings Inc. He is also the Executive Chairman of AIC Limited and the National Commercial Bank of Jamaica. He is also Chairman of the National Commercial Bank of Jamaica.
Chin was born in Port Antonio, Jamaica in 1951. He was named one of the richest people in Canada by Canadian Business Magazine. In 2003, he donated $30 million to the Royal Ontario Museum. He donated $10 million to the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. This gift led to the Michael Lee-Chin Family Institute for Corporate Citizenship at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. Lee-Chin graduated from McMaster University in 1974. He has owned or operated Columbus Communications companies including Sauce Cable Company, Eastern Caribbean Gas Pipeline Company, Radio Jamaica, Reggae Beach resort, Senvia and Trident Hotel Resort. Portland Holdings Inc. includes companies in the media, healthcare, travel and financial services sectors. He was previously married to Vera Lee-Chin, with whom he has three children. He now lives with Sonia Hamilton and has twin daughters.
