New on the billionaire list, Mr. Pieper is the president and owner of Artemis Group, the government relations and business consulting group that controls the Franke Group. Michael’s father bought Franke in 1975 and Michael took over the helm in 1988. Under Michael’s direction, the company expanded in Eastern Europe, Asia, North and South America and Africa. Michael’s son Alex is also actively involved in the business as Managing Director of Franke’s unit in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. As for the Artemis Group, it has a large real estate portfolio, including properties in Switzerland and abroad, and a majority stake in the Feintool Group, which focuses on precision cutting and automation technology. In addition to this, Pieper is a board member of several Swiss companies, such as flooring and manufacturing company Forbo, textile machinery manufacturer Rieter and Berenberg Bank.
